This blog is regarding the top 100 tools for the year of 2012. I was surprised on how many tools ive used but on the flip side also how many I have never even heard of. For example Prezi or Evernote. One is a note taking tool which would be good for classes and the other for presentations. But a lot of the top 10 i use often. I just somtimes get overwhelmed with technology where there are too many things out and i wont be able to catch up with technology. I was surprised with a lot of new tools but i think i could use a lot for the future. Since i have a list of the top 100 i can take my time and review the ones i believe will benefit me.
First the web 2.0 video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc0oDIEbYFc&feature=youtu.be is pretty funny, i was waiting for some words to be said but nope. haha pretty basic but very helpful to understand how web 2.0 works. basically you can get information from web 2.0 tools and add some more information and you can get insights from all different angles. One example is yelp another amazon reviews when you want to buy somthing and want to get information from past consumers who have already purchased an item. It gives a more direct feel and knowledge to things other than just coming from the provider like web 1.0 was offerering. This is great from educating because it has apps where you can use it for educators and students, staff, and faculty, they can all comment and share information and ideas to become better learners.
Youtube is great! wait did I say youtube is great? well it is so it gets a double time haha I know for a fact that i will be using youtube to set up workouts for my athletes because i believe when you see the workouts done properly and do all the proper movement mechanics you just want copy the exact thing. I believe that is better than getting a long paragraph description on how to do a proper single leg squat with a small picture next to it. I believe visual learning in my profession (Strength & Conditioning) is the best way to teach. And youtube offers that because it can show you exactly what someone is doing. I know i will be using youtube to make my own videos and also get references videos. And if you need a quick distraction, just watch a funny youtube video to get a quick
Podcasting is a great new tool for learning inside the classroom and out. I found it pretty neat that you can find plenty of podcast about pretty much anything. Even podcast shows where you can subscribe to them and they automatically load to your device. Who wouldve thought that you can learn on the go, listen in your car or while you go for a morning run. Pause it if you are not finished and pick it up again where u left off while dropping off the kids at soccer practice. If you miss anything you can play it back. I like the fact that you can subcribe to the podcasts and it automatically loads when a new podcasts is made. I think this is a great learning tool for the classroom because with how our society is, everyone is on the go and you may need to have a few playbacks to get the info logged in your head. Im all for podcasting, i would rather listen to a podcast then attend a 7am course haha
Always on in a great article that says in the year 2020 will mark the new era for a way of our youth. I believe much good will come from all this new technology but i think it will also have its flaws as the youth will have less attention spans and everything will be on the go and moving fast. I can see it now how my nephews are always on the phone and using it to send tweets or facebook navigating during thanksgiving dinner. I can see how the new youth gets distracted so easily, while driving, in class, or even eating. Its the no patience and always wanting to know what is going on every second and i dont think that is good. I believe all of this will hurt the education field in some ways because educators will have to find better ways to monitor the problem and make sure it is effective.
I believe that this was a great article that touched base on the world changing and new ways of learning with the different technology out there. Times are always changing and you have to adapt with the new and more efficient ways of learning for example this course where everything is strictly online and we have to use diffent websites and tools to learn. The studies shown in the article i agreed with mostly all of them going with facebook benefiting the class room. It does give it a better way of connecting with students because that is what everyone is using. My only disagreement with facebook over moodle or blackboard is that you can easily get distracted if you are on social media websites. Where it can draw you away from the learning aspect but as far as connecting and communicating I think it is a great tool to use.
