Statistics and data analysis can be very complex and confusing. But if used correctly and analyzing the data. It can be very useful when it comes to teaching and sports. I am not a teacher or in the education field other than taking courses. I do know sports. And now a days everyone is using stats to get more information about the team they are coaching because they want to improve. the same goes to show in the classroom. Stats are information from what has happened and trying to apply it to expect what will happen. Predict a certain outcome and to see where something needs improvement. with sports now everyone is using stats. If you ever turn to sports center on ESPN they come up with the most random stats as to why a certain player performed that day and the significance of it. For example why a team shoots so well when playing at home when they have a crowd attendance of a certain number etc. It is all of trying to know certain outcomes and why. Stats are great because it gives you some truth and probability but its basically most likely going to happen. And it isnt always the case. I think stats and data analysis are great and can be used to improve teams and inside the classroom but i think it should only be a resource and not the sole reason as to go about things.

http://resume.linkedinlabs.com/3kw773vod resumes are a great way to get your name out in the world and of course to get hired. The web is a great tool to use for this as many employers are turning to the web for recruiting. I think if you do it right and set up your resume just right and to the needs of your background you should be able to attrack the right people to your resume. The tools and websites you can use are free most of them and can pay an upgrade for them for more features. Check mine out with the link above. I used Linkedin for my choice.
Here is my survey, I started to look around at which website i liked but i went with survey monkey because it was pretty easy to use and also it was free haha. I had to think about what type of survey i wanted to use so still have to work on that a little more. Heres a like to my survey!
The 3 methods of your Pro Portfolios for this week, Personal website (where you have your blog set up), Linkedin, and also Plaxo. All three can be beneficial to you in exactly what you are trying to achieve. But also if not used correctly it can be useless and potentially do more bad than good. Here are my thoughts on each one.
Your personal website i think is great! You can set up your page however you like and you can add as many tabs and links to it as you like. you can put whatever whenever you like and however you want. The greatest thing about this is that they have websites and companies that make it easy for you to set up a page (weebly) and they also have upgrades and other companies that have monthly or yearly fees to pay for a specific domain. The downside to this is that anyone with internet and a device to log on can go to your page and look at it as it is open to the world to see. So in a way you might want to keep some things back when putting things on your page. Linkedin is a great place to make your professional portfolio stand out. as in my experiences it is mainly to enhance your professional presence instead of the likes of facebook. Linkedin helps you connect with old and new colleagues as well as potential ones. I like to think of it as one of my classmates mentioned it "facebook with a suit and tie" because it is a way to connect but professionaly. You can add pictures and links and people can like or comment whatever you put. Some of the bad things i found with Linkedin is that yes it is free but the free account limits you to certain things you can do and you have to upgrade to get more features. Also some people can log on and put negative content with you and you can possibly get a bad rep from some one who dislikes you. Or of somthing you have posted and a potential employer may see it and take things a bad way. But all in all Linked in is a green light for me! Plaxo is fairly new to me. I only heard about it recently and if you look at the bigger bigger and what its meant for. I believe it is a great tool to stay connected with people. How i understood plaxo is that its one big datatbase where it gets all of your contacts information from different areas and syncs it and puts it together and it is constantly updating as people have changed their info. The downside to this is that everyone changes information and it could be tricky and you are getting information from many different areas. Also if you wanted to upgrade it does cost money. And here is another form of online connection and social networking, yet it is taken to the professional field. Linkedin is a great way to get your name out and your presence in the professional field. Many job recruiters look on linkedin for candidates for a specific job. Its basically putting up a resume on steroids because not only does it give you options to put information about yourself it takes it to a whole different level with regards to pictures and who you interact with and also it shows your previous activity. It is way different from facebook because linkedin is not personal on where people usually put inproper things and put more emotion and feeling in a website like facebook. But linkedin is strictly for professionals. This is where you draw the line from keeping personal life and professinoal life seperate and i believe these two websites are p
Professional Networking has taken its own spin in todays world with everything being technology base. Now with certain websites like linkedin people are able to make a professional portfolio to network themselves out to the world and where employers can recruit for companies. On top of the professional networking sites people also do not even have to meet in person for a interview. Apps and websites like Skype and facetime let people video chat face to face and are able to interview many different people from different places in the world in a matter of minutes! wow that is amazing. I know eventually it is important to meet face to face but all this techonology saves time, money, and effort. On that note im going to Facetime my sister who is in Thailand :)
Wikis in education is a great source of knowledge and a platform to get general information. But it is not a primary source or reliable source for research papers because anyone can add information based on what the person adding the content knows. And information on wikis may not always be correct but i still believe wiki sites such as wikipedia are great tools to get base information for a class or group. Just the ability to add information from different people all over the world who can add in to a certain subject from different backgrounds is just a plus on its own.
I believe apps are one of the best things to happen this century of course enhancing the use of apple products such as the iphone and ipad. Apps are amazing and it does make life easier if you get the right ones for the right jobs. For example it is very easy to purchase movies tickets or even Flights right from your iphone on the go. instead of having to go to your computer and having to print out the tickets or go to the actual buisnesses to purchase the tickets, now it lets you save all the info on your ipad or iphone and you have your tickets on there. There are many apps i use daily to help me organize my daily routine and duties. There is honestly an app for almost everything and if it isnt out yet it sure will be coming out soon as some wiz kid is creating the app as we speak. I also read according to the articles that many educators are gettiing and using these apps in the classroom for learning and organizing purposes. I like the fact that ipads and iphones are not only for fun but also a new way to keep the children engaged and wanting to learn. The great thing about apps on your ipad or iphone is being able to be on the go with it and also using your fingers to manuever the ipad. I beleive that is good early motor behavior learning skills. I see 1 and 2 year olds using ipads and im like wow! that is amazing. So im all for the new wave of app learning, times are changing and it just makes things easier with class sizes getting more and more filled. Helps the teachers have an edge :)
This blog is regarding the top 100 tools for the year of 2012. I was surprised on how many tools ive used but on the flip side also how many I have never even heard of. For example Prezi or Evernote. One is a note taking tool which would be good for classes and the other for presentations. But a lot of the top 10 i use often. I just somtimes get overwhelmed with technology where there are too many things out and i wont be able to catch up with technology. I was surprised with a lot of new tools but i think i could use a lot for the future. Since i have a list of the top 100 i can take my time and review the ones i believe will benefit me.
